Fromin’s sits comfortably on Wilshire Blvd, serving up a slice of classic Jewish deli tradition right in the heart of Santa Monica. This isn’t your typical Westside café; it’s a no-nonsense family-style deli where the focus is steady, hearty food and a familiar atmosphere that feels like a well-worn neighborhood spot. The place tends to fill up during typical brunch and lunch hours, especially with locals seeking something substantial yet unpretentious.

Inside, the vibe is straightforward and unflashy—there’s a sense of old-school deli charm without any forced nostalgia. Expect a casual, lively atmosphere with a mix of families, local regulars, and office workers grabbing a hearty mid-day meal. Unlike some of the busier downtown delis, Fromin’s has enough space and a large parking lot, making it an easier stop if you’re visiting from the Westside or looking for a relaxed lunch without the usual scramble for a spot.

The menu leans on classic deli staples. The Reuben Sandwich on Rye and the Pastrami Sandwich are reliable picks, hearty and well-portioned without straying into over-salted territory. The Matzo Ball Soup is another highlight, with a rich broth and satisfyingly light dumplings that stand out among other offerings. Breakfast items like Eggs Benedict, Steak and Eggs, and French Toast hover on the all-day menu, making Fromin’s a versatile spot whether you want morning fuel or an early dinner.

Service here tends to be warm and attentive, with repeated mentions of servers who make visitors feel taken care of without being overbearing. The casual, family-operated feel means you might need to grab your own silverware occasionally, but the team’s kindness generally offsets any minor slip-ups. Hardier eaters and those looking for generous portions will find plenty to appreciate, with dishes like the Brisket French Dip and various sandwich combos rounding out the lineup.

Fromin’s feels most alive during late mornings and early afternoons — prime times for local families or small groups catching up over a solid meal. If you’re stopping in before a stroll along the nearby streets, the cozy but bustling energy carries just enough comfort to settle into a relaxed meal without a rush.

One of a handful of famous Jewish delis in Los Angeles. Fromin’s is a bit different in that it’s located on the west side in Santa Monica. It’s not nearly as busy as Canter‘s, Langer’s, or Nate and Al’s but it does get quite busy at certain times. They have a large free parking lot attached otherwise it’s not hard to find street parking in this part of town. We stopped in a few days before Christmas and it was quite crowded inside, but we were able to be seated right away, and our server was very polite. As many other reviews have mentioned portion sizes are quite large here although prices are a bit more expensive than they should be. I feel all the delis around LA are at the same price point. It’s more expensive than a diner but less expensive than a trendy dinner restaurant. We usually expect to spend about $75 for two people. Just like most delis they have a giant menu filled with all sorts of options leaning toward Kosher but also have non-Kosher options as well. We have stopped in for dinner before, but this time was our first visit for breakfast. For my breakfast, I had to try one of their everything bagels, which was as good as expected but for my entrée I chose a new combo. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, but I substituted the ham for a burger patty split in half. It was a great call, and I’m glad the kitchen could accommodate my request. The flavors were really good and honestly, I don’t have a reason to give Fromin’s less than five stars. It is a bit more expensive than I think it should be, but as someone who has lived in Los Angeles for many years, it’s something that I’ve come to expect, just part of living in this town. Overall one of the better delis and definitely worth visiting given that there are only a handful of these classic delis left. I would recommend to any deli fan and plan to be back in the future.

Classic delis seem to be going under these days but thank goodness Fromins is still alive and thriving. Their food is fantastic and the portions are substantial. I judge a deli by their corned beef Ruben which I’ve eaten from nyc to LA and their Rueben is frickin delicious. I’ve probably ordered from here 75 times! And only one time did I have a less than excellent experience so i consider it an outlier. Thank you fromins!

About as old school as it gets. Fun lunch and very “solid”. Pastrami good not great - but good. Not the home made brined and slow roasted - but good - not too salty. Chicken soup good - might use too much stock vs natural - but very good - not too salty - great pickles - slaw good a fried good but cold. They never gave me silverware - had to grab it myself - forgot my pickles - but waiter was so nice - such is life. All in all great heat - not epic - but good. * Restaurant could use carpet and refresh - but I guess something charming about the OG style.

Based on our many years of dining at Fromin’s, this has truly been one of our best experiences ever. Juan has been our server most of the time, and he is absolutely amazing. The food is excellent, the service is outstanding, and Juan’s attention to detail never goes unnoticed. Manuel, who brings the drinks and helps take care of the tables, is also a total sweetheart. Everyone there is compassionate, welcoming, and genuinely cares about their customers. Fromin’s is hands down one of the best places to eat in Santa Monica, and we highly recommend it. The entire staff is wonderful—thank you all. —Nahed & Anthony

Fromin’s Deli in Santa Monica is easily one of the best delis in Los Angeles and without question the best on the West Side. The soups here are the star. The matzo ball soup is excellent with a rich, flavorful broth and dumplings that are light yet satisfying. The vegetable soup is another standout, full of fresh flavor and balance, and there are other soup options that keep the menu interesting. The corned beef is a classic favorite, tender and perfectly prepared, and pairs well with their rye bread. Pastrami, brisket, and turkey are also consistently delicious and show the same attention to quality that runs throughout the menu. Fromin’s recently refreshed the space, which now feels brighter and more comfortable while still maintaining its identity as a real deli. It is not trying to be fine dining, and that authenticity is part of the appeal. Service is always strong. The staff is quick, attentive, and friendly, keeping things moving while still being warm and welcoming. Plates arrive hot and fresh, and the overall pace adds to the feeling of being in a true neighborhood institution. Fromin’s has everything you want in a deli: unbeatable soups, excellent sandwiches, reliable service, and a setting that feels both classic and updated. This is five stars all the way.

Love the variety of the menu, so many options. Breakfast ,lunch, and dinner...plus takeaway bakery. Very old school or retro and has been in Santa monica for years... Very loyal old time clientele... Great service n friendly helpful staff. The prices are very reasonable and menu has many old school favorites! Top up coffee and ice tea, plus beer n wine option with a meal.

12/10/2025 I discovered this place today and I was told it's been here for about 40 years or something like that. I went ahead and ordered the brisket dip and pastrami sandwich to see which one is better. I love the hot dip and the meat was tender and juicy, it also came with fries and their ranch dressing was so good. The pastrami sandwich also was very good. Portion wise, it's generous enough. They were both good!

Fromin's is a great Jewish deli in Santa Monica. It is in a small strip mall and parking is easy and free. The place can get crowded so we always go on off hours. It is only open until 10:00 pm so get there by 9:30 pm. The place has been around for years and is a favorite of locals. You will love it. They have the nicest service, from the host to all the staff they are ever so kind. They get your order right and they check on you. They are wonderful for kids. They also have a great cold deli to take things home and a wonderful little bakery. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a big menu. Their sandwiches are just the best, always with fresh meat and great bread. Every year they have a wonderful Passover menu. What items are Kosher, I have no idea. They also have Thanksgiving dinner. They will cater for you if you want. Their bagels are so good. And the topping, lox, salmon, cod, smoked whtefish salad, and of course cream cheese. Their Reuben sandwiches are some of the best. I love their brisket. Their hot turkey sandwich, open faced with mashed is so very good. For dinner, all of it is good. They make great fish and chips, I love their fries. They have some good steaks and oh the Roast brisket of beef s super yummy. You will love this place.
